Watch and Learn: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Have New Options with MedCerts Video Training

Watch and Learn: Deaf and Hard of Hearing See a Brighter Future through Video

LIVONIA, Mich., Jan 03, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Career training reaches new heights as MedCerts, a Michigan-based proprietary school, introduces the first “watch and learn” career training program specifically designed for the deaf and hard of hearing leading them to quick entry into the fast growing field of administrative healthcare.

“Our training program addresses an individual’s need by bringing the instructor to their desktop and preparing that student for success in today’s job market,” said Mark McManus Sr. COO of MedCerts.

When it comes to training opportunities for the deaf and hard of hearing, the options are limited, according to Net Sign News, and are a contributing factor to the high jobless rate within their communities. When job opportunities are high, and even accommodating to this group of people, the opportunity to gain proper training and certification for access to these jobs is difficult for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Training and certification is required by most employers in the field of administrative healthcare and MedCerts has been providing this training to the general population through their successful video-based learning programs, and now have made that training accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing.

MedCerts has adapted their most successful career program in medical billing and coding for the deaf and hard of hearing, both signers and non-signers, through American Sign Language (ASL) translated videos and ADA compliant English subtitles. These courses prepare students for national certification as medical billing and coding specialists where demand is growing for qualified applicants.

“As a DHH person, I know there are few training opportunities specifically designed for the DHH individual that prepare them for careers that actually work for this group,” said Todd Morrison, Director of Outreach Development at DEBS (Deaf Employment Business Solutions) and translator for MedCerts specialized medical billing and coding program.

Medical billers and coders are responsible for ensuring accurate and timely reimbursements to medical centers through appropriate procedural coding and computer-based billing work. Positions are usually back office, and most work is performed online and electronically. According to the Department of Labor, medical billers are in high demand today with a greater need for more trained and qualified workers. Most employers require training and certification to qualify for positions in medical billing and coding.

“We provide a unique and effective video learning experience for the development of individuals by preparing them with the knowledge to pass a national certification exam that qualifies them for industry specific job requirements,” said McManus. “Graduates of a nationally recognized certification are the ‘Gold Standard’ for any employer and our current educational offering is the first of its kind for the deaf and hard of hearing community.”

MedCerts is a leader in video-based training programs designed to educate and support individuals by preparing them for certification in popular administrative healthcare fields. Through its website, www.DHHTraining.com , MedCerts now offers their most popular medical billing and coding program adapted specifically for the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing.

A couple of months ago, we had the benefit of working with WISE in creating five ASL translated videos to support their already recorded seminars of which were posted online. Our ASL captioning project further increase the level of accessibility to their product. ASL captioning to us, is a ASL translated video window embedded onto another video which has become increasingly our most requested service as of recent.

Work Incentive Seminar Event (WISE) will provide you the opportunity to learn how to take advantage of Social Security Work Incentives, including Ticket to Work. This online WISE Event was recorded in American Sign Language to increase awareness of the Ticket to Work Program and other Work Incentives among beneficiaries who are deaf and their service providers and advocates. These videos (chapter 1-5) are free for everyone to view.
